One example of prescription estrogen cream product is the estrace cream. Hormones in charge for the maintaining and developing of the female reproductive organs are called estrogen. The ovaries are responsible in producing estrogen. The production of the hormones is being reduced whenever the menstrual period of a woman ends.
Estrace cream prescription is usually provided for those women who are already experiencing postmenopausal syndromes. Such prescription is given in order for the rough effects of menopausal symptoms to be reduced. Aside from this, Estrace cream is as well prescribed for other uses. Interestingly, one use of which is treating facial wrinkling. Let us then take a look at more of what Estrace cream for wrinkles may offer.
Estrace Cream Contents
Estradiol is one ingredient of estrace. Estradiol is the main human estrogen which occurs naturally. Thi is contained by estrace (0.1 mg of it) in a base which holds a non liquefying mixture of: purified water, propylene glycol, stearyl alcohol, white ceresin wax, mono and di-glycerides, hypromellose 2208 (4000 cps), sodium lauryl sulfate, methylparaben, edetate di-sodium; and tertiary-butylhydroquinone.
Usually, Estrace creams are prescribed for treating for several conditions like vaginal atrophy. According to the Mayo Clinic, the shrinking and thinning of tissues in addition to the reduction of lubrication causes the outer urinary tract and vagina to be irritated or experience inflammation. Also, it is used for hot flashes, sweating in menopause, itching, burning, difficult or painful urination, skin thinning and skin wrinkling.
Facial wrinkling had been reduced by the use of estrogen cream such as estrace. “Maturitas” issue of October 1994 studied by the group of P. Creidi proved that women who used estrogen creams treated wrinkles on their faces. Two treatments were administered to 2 groups of women (54 women whose age ranged from 52-70 years), respectively for comparison. The group who used estrogen cream has shown more improved thickness of the skin and fine wrinkling that the other group.
Dr. Irving Wolfe, a Maryland dermatologist has also noted on May 9, 2005, ABC’s WTAE Pittsburgh Channel article. Dr. Wolfe said that a minimal quantity of inflammation is caused by vaginal estrogen cream. As a result, the skin puffs up which aid in the reduction of wrinkle appearances.
Keep in mind
The dosage of estrace cream when used for wrinkles differs from the dosage when used for the dryness of the vagina. Know the required dosage for it is way lower when used on facial wrinkles. For such use, the cream might need dilution. Not much clinical studies which are long term are on hand for the use of Estrace cream on facial wrinkles. Experts might not consider the prescription of Estrace for such use. It is best still to have this discussed along with the doctor if ever you have plans to treat your facial wrinkling with Estrace.
Also, the following people should not use estrace cream: women who are pregnant; women with cancer; women with breast cancer or who have family history of it; and women with family history of cardiovascular disease and liver dysfunction. Discuss with the skin specialist prior to the use of any estrogen cream product.
