Laugh lines or what we call perioral lines and smile lines are more visible as one gets older. Intrinsic aging is when the production of collagen and elastin decreases during aging while extrinsic aging is a condition influenced by smoking, habitual facial expressions, sleeping positions and exposure to the sun. However, many beauty experts recommend some exercises to strengthen muscles around the mouth in order to tone the area and aids in minimizing the looks of these fine lines. Here are facial exercises for laugh lines.
Exercise #1: Massage
With the use of the pads of your fingers, massage the area around the mouth by rubbing in a brisk circular motion. Move in an upward and outward motion while feeling the muscles surrounding the smile lines. Once you feel these muscles, pull them gently and smooth them out. Exercise #2: Sneering Exercises

As you hold your fingers in place, contract the muscles by drawing your top lip into a sneer then lift it towards your nose. You must feel that your skin is being pulled out from under your fingertips. Now breathe as you hold the sneering position for around six seconds. Repeat the procedure for 10 times. It is better to perform sneering exercise in front of the mirror because this will guide you in isolating the proper muscle and helps you avoid contracting the wrong ones.
Exercise #3: The Grimace
This lip-curling exercise to reduce smile lines or laugh lines is from Families.com. In this exercise, you must roll your lips inside your mouth then press down gently so as to keep them together and compressed. Now as you hold the position, exhale sharply but keep your mouth remain closed. This method will let the skin around your mouth to balloon. You must hold the position for four counts after which you exhale completely and relax your mouth. Repeat it for ten times.
Exercise #4: Trumpet Player Exercise
In this exercise, you must inhale through your mouth and then hold the air in your mouth and puff out your cheeks as if you’re trying to blow a note on the trumpet. Hold the positions for 60 seconds and breathe through your nose if necessary, then slowly exhale the air in your mouth through your nostrils. The Fat Free Kitchen said this type of exercise must be repeated five times and this will help you in removing laugh lines around the mouth and this also help tone the cheeks.
Now, who would ever say that laugh lines is something you have to just live by with the onset of wrinkles on your face. Who says also that you need expensive wrinkle creams all the time to work out on it? With the exercises above, you can smile again without the laugh lines.
